What works for me

I am currently 37 with a German, English, Polish makeup, and I suffered terribly from what I thought was reflux from about the time I was 22, in the early days something to drink would fix it and between Jan 2000 and Dec 2002 I spent many a sleepless night, and the only relief I could get was ice water. I also watched what I ate and tried to lose weight. I also had the occurrence of a hot poker pain some people describe around this time period. In Mid Dec 2002 I began to regurgitate food while I slept, but on a positive note I no longer had reflux. It got worse and worse until my wife made me go to a doctor, the first thing he did was to put me on nexium which seemed to aggravate my condition from regurgitation while sleeping to regurgitation of almost everything. Between Jan 03 and August 03 I lost around 85 lbs simply from not being able to force enough food down from my now full blown achalasia (also now diagnosed by a specialist via barium swallow and 2 manometry’s). It was by accidental luck that in July 03 I pinched a nerve in my back and lost partial feeling in my feet that caused me to start taking major amounts of B vitamins daily (I had had this in my early 20’s from a skiing thing once before and B1 fixed me right up in a few months). Vitamin B1 is responsible for helping the body convert food into energy and I quote from http://chemistry.gsu.edu/glactone/vitamins/b1/ : It is evident from the neurological disorders caused by thiamine deficiency that this vitamin plays a vital role in nerve function. (And since achalasia is a nerve related disorder of the esophagus). Anyway, it is my opinion and belief (the doctor does not seem to agree), that my taking of a major B vitamin daily has almost completely reversed my symptoms of achalasia. Not to say I don’t have an occasional bad day, I can live this way and not complain, and although I have put on about 5 lbs in the last few months I doubt I will ever get fat like I was again. My purpose for putting together achalasia.net was to find people with our disorder to test and document B vitamin therapy to see if it will work in more than just my case. I have noticed if I don’t take them for 3 days I get worse. I take the following daily: Kirkland brand (from Costco) B-50 Formula item #98378 (250 tabs like 9.99) Supplement facts from back label (I am only listing the B’s): Thiamin B1 50mg 3333% daily value, Riboflavin B2 50mg, B6 50mg, B12 50mg. I would be interested in knowing how soon you see an improvement, if you try this.
